Blogging, Blogger and Meg Hourihan

The amazing ITConversations posted a podcast in their Memory Lane series with Meg Hourihan, of Blogger fame. In the podcast (download), Meg talks about the history of Blogger, her own history when it comes to involvement with online publishing and more importantly, her own view on whats next for the web.

Meg sees the web releasing itself from traditional media and the traditional ways of thinking by evolving towards the “remixing” and “sampling” paradigms. She states that just like it happened with flickr where the software abstracts the user from the old concept of a roll and considers each picture as a unit in itself, more kinds of online content will end up walking towards this new simplicity. One good example she mentions is how the web was (up until recently) a collection of pages – following the example of a book – and is becoming a massive gathering of individual posts (thanks to blogging), each with its own categorization and online presence.

I will most likely dwelve into this topic later on, but for now, make sure you hear the awesome podcast on IT Conversations with Meg Hourihan. Brilliant.
