23, Flickr and interoperability
This must have slipped through the cracks on my aggregator some time ago, but the guys at 23 - a photo service similar to Flickr - know how 2.0 should be and don’t mind showing it (even if that means recognizing the value of competition). The proof is that their developer API is based on Flickr’s so that developers can support their application in 2 minutes if they already support Flickr.
Here’s what they have to say on their developer page:
We believe that APIs should be open and non-vendor specific to create a common field for interoperability and competition. It doesn’t make a lot of sense for us to create a “23 API” that can only be used with one service. Therefore we’re actively working with a wide variety of people in the sharing space to create open standards. In the meantime we’ve added support for the Flickr API giving any developer who’s already has spent time implementing the Flikr API a chance to support 23 in 2-3 minutes.
Extremely smart. This move is good for them, developers who want to support more platforms in their applications, and the web in general - we need more people pushing for interoperability of APIs and services. Kudos.

[...] Autre exemple qui me frappe, c’est l’efficacité de 23hq à profiter de la fabuleuse communauté et des utilitaires autour de flickr :We believe that APIs should be open and non-vendor specific to create a common field for interoperability and competition.
